Mercedes-Benz GLC lug nut torque

Mercedes-Benz GLC owner’s manuals give 111 lb-ft (150 N·m) for the Coupe C253 (built 2017–2022), SUV X253 (built 2017–2021), SUV X254 and Coupe C254, 110 lb-ft (150 N·m) for the SUV X540 and 96 lb-ft (130 N·m) for the SUV X253 (built 2015–2016) and Coupe C253 (built 2016). Check which applies to yours. Tighten them in a star pattern with a torque wrench.

Mercedes-Benz lists its owner’s manuals by the date the car was built, not by model year, so they’re listed that way here: each applies to cars built from the date shown. The month and year yours was built are on the label in the driver’s door frame. Read on Mercedes-Benz’s own site on October 23, 2026.

How to tighten them

  1. Clean any dirt or rust off the bolts and the wheel’s mounting face. Don’t oil them unless the manual says to.
  2. Thread every bolt in by hand until it seats against the wheel.
  3. Lower the vehicle so the tire takes its weight, and set a torque wrench to the value for your build date in the table above.
  4. Tighten the bolts in a star pattern, going around two or three times, until the wrench clicks on every bolt.
  5. Check the torque again after a short drive if your manual says to.

What the Mercedes-Benz manual adds

  • Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal pattern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with an initial maximum force of 59 lb-ft (80 Nm).
  • Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a crosswise pattern in the sequence indicated.
  • Have the tightening torque immediately checked at a qualified specialist workshop after a wheel is changed.

Questions

What is the lug nut torque on a Mercedes-Benz GLC?

111 lb-ft (150 N·m) for the Coupe C253 (built 2017–2022), SUV X253 (built 2017–2021), SUV X254 and Coupe C254; 110 lb-ft (150 N·m) for the SUV X540; 96 lb-ft (130 N·m) for the SUV X253 (built 2015–2016) and Coupe C253 (built 2016), as printed in Mercedes-Benz’s owner’s manuals (built 2015–2026).

Can I use an impact wrench?

Not to finish. An impact wrench can’t set a torque and easily overshoots it, which stretches studs. Run the nuts down by hand or lightly, then finish with a torque wrench in a star pattern.

Should I oil the wheel bolts?

Not unless the manual says so. Torque values assume clean, dry threads; oil lets the same torque stretch the bolt further. Some manuals, Kia’s and Mazda’s among them, say to keep oil and grease off wheel nuts and bolts altogether.
